When setting up servers it is very important to keep your server ip address locked in. Your router can and will allow your ip address to roam, but your router also assigns open ports to a specific ip. When your computer changes ip’s you will no longer be able to connect to your server.
Step 1
First will need to find your current IP.
Right click on windows and select search
in Search type command prompt and click it to run.
A window will popup in the window type ipconfig all lowercase. Then make note of the IP4 address this is the number we will use to tell your router what computer this is and make sure it never changes. After documenting the numbers close out all the windows.
Step 2
Locate the gateway and DNS
left click on the network indicator, (bottom right corner of windows taskbar) and when the window pops up left click on the network icon in the window.
now left click on the network and sharing center in the right hand menu
now left click on the word ethernet (blue text link).
Now click on details
If you followed all that clicking successfully you will have the window above, make note of the ip4 gateway and the DNS servers you will need these in a minute. Then close out all the windows.
Step 3
It’s time to insert our newly acquired numbers.
Go back to lower right hand corner of windows and left click the network icon again, then click in network and internet settings this time.
Scroll down to ip settings and click edit.
Fill in the ip4v information with everything you gathered before, when you save it forces your computer to use these settings always for your network ensuring that your game servers don’t break due to a changing ip address.
