Changing Server Managers and Maintain Server Progress

Can I?

Short answer -yes. Long answer, yes. This can be done with any game and any server. The server itself is what is creating the files, so those are the key files you need in order to maintain your progress. These should be saved within the game files, the hardest part is locating them.

Locate the files

The first step is finding your active server and locating the safe files. In ASA for example they are saved along the lines of //manager name/map name/shootergame/saved/savedarks/theisland_wp/ list of files. these are the files needed. For ASA it is 3 files plus the anticorruptionBackup.BAK which i also grabbed so 4 files. It helps to sort the files by date, to verify this worked, I logged into my original server, played for a minute, verified some tamed dinos, logged out and exited the server, then I found the files in the list, and since it was the first time I had saved for today, the files I needed where the only ones labeled with todays date. Be cautious going by time stamps, my files had 20 minutes between the oldest file and the newest, which I did not understand, could be these times where when the file was created not actually saved.

I created a file folder on my desktop and copied the files into it, that way if I miss something my original server still works and I can further locate the files.

Copy

The files will need to be copied to the new server manager, the files should be in an identical file structure but with the new server manager name. locate the same folder in this case theisland_wp and copy the files. Make sure you have the same mods installed in the new manager. Also to avoid as many problems as possible make sure as many of the settings are the same. In theory this should not matter as you are allowed to change these any time the server is off but if you have trouble consider this as a weird possibility.

Boom Zoom to the MOON!

Launch your server and login, you should have the same character and the same dinos, it took me longer to write this up than it did to duplicate my server. I even changed server names, connected and my dino was still present along with my character like it was the same manager.

Once Again,

This will work with any combination of server managers, you will just need to figure out what files are saved and where, they can be all over the map between the different engines, but similar engines should have similar structures in general. The server manager is simply an interface between you and the server files, the files are created by the server themselves.

Second Possibility.

Another possible way to change to a different manager is too perform a backup from within the game engine itself, not from within the server manager although you can try that as well. *some managers will backup extra files that are not needed* launch the new server and restore from backup. this however may or may not work, depending on a variety of factors. If it is all done from within the game engine it should work every time, but from within a manager, it will depend.

JUST DON’T

Just don’t change anything in your original server manager or server until the backup is working exactly the same way and you are out nothing. You can fiddle with getting the new server up and running over a week or a month, and it wont matter, (of course you have to use the current save file). All I am trying to say here is no harm will come to your original server or progress, while you are getting the new manager up and running.
