This game is in early access and I have played it some both in the original beta and now in early access. the information below is per the developer/steam page or whatever else is available.

Forever Skies is being developed by Far From Home, a small team.
Survival Elements
The game has more survival elements than I was expecting, You have food and water, balanced with energy, you must keep all these as high as possible because that reduces your risk of diseases. There are plenty of those to be had, and the just added new ones with the latest patch.
Base Building
The custom base building comes in the form of a air balloon. You can customize this as you see fit as long as you stay within the build parameters, for example weight, increase that and add more rooms, engines, what have you. It is pretty cool.
Crafting
You will be crafting every finished item from what I can tell so far.
Looting
There is plenty to loot, materials, containers, ruins, even disassembling odd parts from ruins.
Combat, Main Enemy Types
I did not run into enemies in the early game, but after some reasearch it does appear there are some with more planned. This is a Non-Zombie title.
Characters and Leveling
There is no character creation, the game is first person. There is also no leveling mechanic.
Creature Taming and Mounts
There is a pet, that can be obtained. I am unsure if it has any function or not.
Weather Impacts on Gameplay
The weather does impact gameplay already. I don’t know the full extent but storms make it impossible to see, especially driving the airship and lightning damages the character and the airship.
Game Modes
Easy, Normal, Hard, Permadeath.
Map
The game uses a hand crafted map.
Over Gameplay Difficulty
The game is not difficult to play, it reminded me immediately of Subnautica, The survival aspect is picking up with a major overhaul just done to diseases with the latest update.
