Here are The Forest tips and tricks I usually use when trying to survive The Forest. When you find yourself having trouble surviving your first few nights, make sure you are doing these things. They are not in order, depending on where you start in the game the order will be different anyway.
This will be at the top of the list, but it takes time and a lot of effort. You need a place to sleep and store your items, and (save the game) to survive the nights, so building a shelter should be one of your first priorities. Start with one of the “prefab” buildings, I like to use the a frame treehouse shelter.
Collect as many resources as you can, including sticks, rocks, and logs. These will be used to build your shelter and craft tools. You can simply make small piles around your shelter, you will use everything up very fast to start with so I wouldn’t bother making storage containers in the beginning.
You need to keep your hunger and thirst levels up, so make sure to collect food and water as you explore the forest. Most water isn’t safe to drink so you will want a water collector of some sort very early on. Make a drying rack and find some meat to put on it.
Use the resources you’ve gathered to craft weapons like the spear or bow and arrows, and tools like the axe or pickaxe.
Caves are a great source of resources, so explore them whenever possible. However, be prepared to face some of the game’s more challenging enemies. Caves take a long time to explore so I always make sure I have a shelter and food and water before even thinking about going in them.
Stealth is essential in The Forest, so crouch down and move slowly to avoid alerting enemies. The more hidden you remain to easier it is to survive.
Traps are an effective way to catch animals for food or to defend your base against enemies. You will want a good shelter and supply of food and water before your hard earned resources on traps.
Fires are useful for cooking food, staying warm, and providing light during the night. BUT keep it hidden, this is one of the many reasons I start with a tree shelter, your fire can be hidden in the back so the locals won’t see it. They are atracted to fire and will come check it out. Put the fire in the back corner and a drying rack on side of the entrance with a water collector on the side.
Mutants are the game’s most challenging enemies and should be avoided whenever possible. If you do encounter them, try to run away or use stealth to avoid them.
Make sure to save your progress regularly, as you never know what dangers might be lurking around the next corner.
If you have tried all of the above and simply can’t seem to make it lower the difficulty level and try again. The Forest is the only game I have played all the way through on every difficulty level.
