I Love survival games, I really enjoy games like Survival Fountain of Youth. If you enjoy games similar to Survival Fountain of Youth, then check out the following page. I list all the gameplay elements of Survival Fountain of Youth and at the bottom of the page is a list of survival games with similar gameplay elements.
This game is in early access and I have limited play time, the information below is per the developer/steam page or whatever else is available.
Survival Fountain of Youth is being developed in Unity.
The Game is being developed by a small team, Twin Sails Interactive.
Survival Fountain of Youth reminds me of a tropical The Long Dark. I am sure I have not come across all the survival elements, and they are numerous, including Wind, Wet, Runny Nose, Hungry, Thirsty, Poisoned, Tired, Sunburned, and there are many more. All these things must be managed when playing.
The game features custom base building, along with temporary survival shelters along the lines of Green Hell.
You will be crafting everything, Even your map details will need to be “drawn”, much like The Long Dark.
There is some looting but it is very minimal, you will need to gather materials from the environment.
Your main enemies are animals and insects. Rejoice my friends this is a Zombie free zone.
The game is in first person so there is no character creator, however the game features 2 extensive leveling systems.
There is currently no creature taming or mounts, you will however need to build boats to get from island to island.
Much again, like the long dark, Weather does impact gameplay. It will give you status’s that you need to heal or risk death.
The modes are “standard” very easy, easy, hard, etc, with a second selection that limits how many times you can “faint” before your character dies forever. So you could essentially set the game to very easy and only allow 1 death. I hope they are able to add a “survival non-story” mode, again much like The Long Dark.
The map is hand crafted, at first I thought it was rather small, but now after traveling around the starter island I realize it is HUGE.
The game is not difficult to learn, everything works much like you expect it to. The game play is challenging. You must “slow down”. You have to sleep, you have a higher chance to injure yourself when working in the dark. You will need to stop and cure problems. Every action passes time, even to the point where mapping at night is not posssible.
Dangerous animals, weather, plants, diseases, injuries, hunger, thirst, exhaustion — everything will test your strength and ability to survive.
With the scorching Caribbean heat, the relentless storms, the malaria infested swamps and poisonous plants, the Bimini archipelago is full of hazards to overcome. Crafting, building shelter, improving your skills and exploring the islands in search of resources are key to your survival. Are you ready to take on the challenge?
There are hundreds of items that can be crafted and used for survival, from the simplest tools made of sticks and rocks to advanced muskets, metal armor and tools. You can also build a variety of workshops, from primitive leather dryers to pre-industrial era machines.
Each action you perform improves your skills — strength, cooking, skinning, shooting, and more. Survive and develop new abilities to evolve from a clumsy rookie to a hardcore survivor.
