Survival Elements
Rust survival elements, I will let you know once I live long enough for the elements to kill me. IT tracks wetness, Being too hot and too cold will cause health damage. There is also radiation. But you will be lucky to live long enough for it to matter, wolves, bears, npcs, and other players are your major concerns. Well eating and drinking are right up there as well.
Base Building
Rust has custom base building, If you are playing multiplayer, you will need to build and defend your base from being raided by other players and stealing your hard earned loot.
Crafting
You will be crafting everything, not to say you won’t find weapons and clothes because you will but you will be crafting a bunch.
Looting
This is the ticket, you will be looting to live. Container smashing 101.
Combat, Main Enemy Types
Animal npcs, “scientist” AI, And you or Me, or one of the other millions of people that play.
Characters and Leveling
There is no leveling and no character creation. You don’t even get to choose male or female. You are born naked, afraid and on the run. It really doesn’t matter much as everything but the character screen is first person.
Creature Taming and Mounts
There is no taming, but you can ride horses and get vehicles.
Weather Impacts on Gameplay
I could not verify, or experience weather changing the game play in any meaningful way. It could depend on the map though.
Game Modes
multiplayer, and whatever server settings or mods they are running.
Single player only if you create your own password locked server.

I put about a 100 hours in rust, It has been a while. I modded a server to be single player and added zombies.
Over Gameplay Difficulty
Brutal, or maybe a little bit worse. You will be murdered in more ways than you can imagine.
Game Summary
Rust is a brutal online multiplayer survival game where your biggest survival element is other players. You can create a single player experience but it is really lack luster compared to other titles available. If you like DayZ, Miscreated or Scum, You should consider giving this game a try. If you are known for smashing equipment when you die, you should probably pass.
