Game Engine

Best I can tell this game is being developed in Java

Developer

Project Zomboid is being developed by The Indie Stone, a small team.

Survival Elements

Everything, Noise, Temperature, Sight, Food, Water, Massive Injury System, Infections, and more lots more.

Base Building

You can build a custom base, or take over an existing building. You will need to attain a certain level in Carpentry before you can build your dream home. You can decorate it with items found in other buildings, you can even steal your neighbors carpet for your self.

Crafting

Yes, Please. I don’t know if there is anything you can’t craft in this game. Want a deadly fork spear? well go ahead and make yourself one.

Looting

Umm yes, with a side of yes. Everything can and will need to be looted.

Combat, Main Enemy Types

I am not telling.

Characters and Leveling

There is a massive skill system which requires books to learn and completing actions to master.

Creature Taming and Mounts

I could not determine if there is taming, there is farming with livestock, breeding and even traits.

Weather Impacts on Gameplay

Everything effects gameplay in this zombie terror.

Game Modes

There are several game modes including, Apocalypse, Survivor, Builder, Custom Sandbox, as well as many challenge modes and single and multiplayer.

Controls

The controls are customizable, There is no camera control which is one of my biggest hurdles when playing the game.

Map

The game features a large hand crafted map.

Hours

I only played the game for an hour. I could quickly see why people either hate it or love it. The game itself is fantastic, with just about everything you could want. Personally I struggled with the UI, I absolutely hate it, Also the lack of camera controls, and the line of site really really throw me off. I find the world hard to navigate because you are constantly running into things, it is hard to open doors and windows.

Over Gameplay Difficulty

The game is very challenging. You will die often and when you die that is it, time to start a new character.

Game Summary

The game is still under active development, If you love hardcore survival games, then In a rare move, I would suggest you watch a couple YouTube videos to see if you can live with the graphics and camera controls. Also keep a lookout for the UI, as those elements are the ones keeping me from any long term plans to play the game.
