I Love survival games, I really enjoy games like Frostpunk. If you enjoy games similar to Frostpunk, then check out the following page. I list all the gameplay elements of Frostpunk and at the bottom of the page is a list of survival games with similar gameplay elements.
Frostpunk releases on 4/24/2018 and has been in full release for years.
Frostpunk was developed on an in-house “Liquid” engine, all future projects from this developer are supposed to be moved to Unreal Engine.
Frostpunk was developed by 11 Bit Studios.
The survival elements come down to managing food, and gathering resources, which in this case is essential to keeping your city warm.
This game has the standard placing of pre-designed structures, however it does it in a very unique fashion as all buildings have to be attached to roads, which can quickly cause issues, also buildings must maintain a certain heat level.
You will not be crafting anything. building will produce resources, such as food and lumber.
There is very little in the way of looting. There is sending scouts on missions and they may return with goods, but your people will not be searching through boxes for materials. All materials will need to be gathered.
There is no combat, The cold is enough, it will be your enemy from start to frost bitten finish.
You will have laws to issue to your people, laws have 2 choices, selecting one choice locks out the other choice. Dead citizens? Build a cemetery, or bury them in the snow. Each with it’s own pros and cons.
You are given what feels like a fairly small map to manage, It is large enough. Again, you have to place roads to build any buildings, and those buildings must maintain a heat level to be functional, also the game protects you from building something that will block resources with a warning message.
There are no “characters” There is also no leveling, You will have a fantastic tech tree with more choices then resources to achieve at least at first.
There is no creature taming or mounts.
UMMM, 3 guesses and your first 2 don’t count. COLD, “Baby it’s COLD Outside”, Did I mention cold? Every so many days the temperature drops, causing more bad stuff.
There is a story mode and a “endless” mode.
The map appears to be hand crafted. It looks the same to me with every restart and there are no map options, there are 3 expansions available also, which provide 3 different maps but also 3 different experiences with different rules, so you won’t get to “replay” the original on a new map.
I find this game very challenging, It takes a good amount of time to figure out the heating of buildings, the zones, and management, which is what this game is all about. The actual game-play isn’t hard or confusing, I feel like the UI is nice and clean, the only thing I had trouble finding was the road building icon.
Many people think this is the standard set for society survival. Your governance is the main thing you are trying to pull off here. There are no bandits, zombies, or anything else that wants to kill you, it is all about happy peoples. If you are into society survival and haven’t played this, then I say crawl out from under your rock already. Let’s get cooking!
