Full Release Title
Floodland was released on 11/15/2022
Game Engine
Floodland was developed on the Unity Engine.
Developer
The game is being developed by Vile Monarch.
Society Survival Elements
Maintaining Food, Water, and Housing. are the main “survival elements”. Of course in a society survival game these work a little different.
Base Building
Base building is done with your standard pre-made buildings that you place where needed on the map and upgrade accordingly.
Crafting
The crafting is standard, buildings produce items type, you will not be making items individually for all your people.
Looting
The game as a lot of building looting, providing resources and even more people for your settlement.
Combat, Main Enemy Types
Floodland has no combat. You are charged with maintaining and growing a peaceful society.
Governance
Floodland places a high degree of game-play on governance. The game features several clans, which all have different and often competing values, along with a law system, that makes decisions impactful.
Land Management
The only form of land management is the fact that there is not a lot of land, the world is flooded and there are tons of islands, you can however destroy buildings and harvest resources that open up more building areas.
Characters leveling, and Tech Tree
As a large society survival type game, you do not manage individual characters. There is a leveling type system (tech tree), a couple actually, one is resources, they are locked behind certain technology, (pretty standard for this genre) and also you will be training your villagers for certain traits, which allow them to then perform special jobs.
Weather Impacts on Gameplay
The weather has no impact on game-play.
Game Modes
Single Player, Follow the Story, Challenge, Struggle, and Prepare to Fail.
Map
The map is randomly generated providing a different experience with every new game.
Over Gameplay Difficulty
The game is not overly difficult, you can fail, and make bad decisions that are hard to work your way out of. This is especially true in the beginning before you get a handle on what you really need to expand.
Game Summary
I found the game to be fun, I played the demo and end up buying the full version. This is a great “second screen” game, as you can pause the game with the space bar and delay and decision making until a commercial. You can easily screw up your society though so you do still have to pay attention. When you start you pick one of 8 clans, those clans all have different values, along the way you will find members of any given clan, and the laws you apply could make some members happy and others mad, clans can fight, and people can leave your settlements.
