The game was started by one developer and taken over by a second, it had a long time with no updates but the last couple of years has seen significant changes.

Survival Elements

The game has food, water, and temperature management.

Base Building

The game has custom base building.

Crafting

You can craft a great many items in this game. Weapons, Tools, Clothes, Workbenches, There are even molds to make things like nails.

Looting

There is a lot of looting, Most loot I acquired was materials to craft items and not usable items themselves.

Combat, Main Enemy Types

You main enemies are bandits and animals, Rejoice zombie haters, this is a non-z title.

Characters and Leveling

There is no character creator, but there is a detailed leveling system, skill points can be allocated to many many different things.

Creature Taming and Mounts

There is no taming, but there are vehicles.

Weather Impacts on Gameplay

I did not experience any weather related gameplay elements however they could still be present.

Game Modes

There are not any modes, however you can set up spawns rates on certain things like enemies and animals.

Map

The game has a hand crafted map.

Over Gameplay Difficulty

This game will fall a little more difficult depending on what settings you choose. It will be easy to die, I used a full clip of ammo trying to kill a wolf and almost lost. I would assume skill increases will change this to be in  your favor.

Game Summary

Hold Your Own seems to have enough content to provide many hours of gameplay. It has a pretty large world with lots of things to do. You are not in constant combat and worried about Zombies all the time. Many survival game titles are created by single devs or pairs, and are not AAA titles, but for the price they can be well worth it, especially true when on sale.
